Laura Sturch is currently in her fourth year as the Director of Bands at Clark High School. Ms. Sturch conducts the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and Jazz Band at Clark High School.
Prior to teaching in Plano, Ms. Sturch was the Head Band Director at Brown Middle School in Forney, TX. In 2011, Symphonic Band I placed first in the Region 3 CC Honor Band process, advancing to Area. Bands under Ms. Sturch’s direction have earned superior ratings at UIL, Best in Class and Superior ratings at local festival and has been recognized as “Commended” in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Contest.
Prior to teaching in Forney, Ms. Sturch was an Assistant Band Director at Alice High School for eight years. She conducted the Symphonic Band at Alice High School and the Symphonic Band at William Adams Middle School where her bands earned superior ratings. Ms. Sturch also taught all of the french horn students in Alice in which her students consistently earned membership into the district, region, area and all-state bands.
Ms. Sturch performed with The Dutch Boy Drum and Bugle Corps from Ontario, Canada (1992, 1993) and The Cadets of Bergen County (1994). She was a member of the brass staff for The Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps from Toledo, Ohio (2005-2010). She also was a member of the Corpus Christi Wind Symphony under the direction of Bryce Taylor from 2000-2008. She currently performs with the Carrollton Wind Symphony under the direction of Jim McDaniel.
Ms. Sturch holds the Bachelor of Music Education Degree and a Masters of Music Education Degree from The University of Southern Mississippi. She is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, The Texas Bandmasters Association and Texas Music Adjudicators Association. She has served as a band organizer for MS and HS All-Region Bands for Region 3 and was the TMEA Region 3 MS Band Chair in 2014. Ms. Sturch was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Brown Middle School, 2013-2014.
Ms. Sturch volunteers for the Dallas Running Club coaching half marathon training groups and pacing local races.
