Laura Sturch is entering her 22nd year as a band director and her 6th year as Director of Bands at Clark High School. Mrs. Sturch conducts the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and Marching Band at Clark High School as well as oversees all aspects of the Clark Band program.
Mrs. Sturch taught for one year in the Tampa area before coming to Texas where she was an Assistant Band Director for 8 years at Alice High School and the Director of Bands at Brown Middle School in Forney for 7 years. Bands under Mrs. Sturch’s direction have earned superior ratings at UIL, Best in Class and Superior ratings at local festivals and have been recognized as “Commended” in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Contest.
Mrs. Sturch performed with The Dutch Boy Drum and Bugle Corps from Ontario, Canada (1992, 1993) and The Cadets of Bergen County (1994). She was a member of the brass staff for The Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps from Toledo, Ohio (2005-2010). She is currently on the brass staff for The Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps from Casper, Wyoming (2018 – present). She was a member of the Corpus Christi Wind Symphony under the direction of Bryce Taylor from 2000-2008 and the Carrollton Wind Symphony under the direction of Jim McDaniel from 2008-2016.
Ms. Sturch holds the Bachelor of Music Education Degree and a Masters of Music Education Degree from The University of Southern Mississippi. She is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, The Texas Bandmasters Association and Texas Music Adjudicators Association. She has served as the assistant region band chair for TMEA Region 24 as well as a band organizer for Region 24. Mrs. Sturch was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Brown Middle School, 2013-2014.
Mrs. Sturch enjoys fitness and health and is always training for upcoming races. She was recently selected as one of 50 teachers across the US and Canada through a contest to run the NYC Marathon in November 2020 as a part of Team TCS Teachers (now rescheduled for November 2021). She also paces local races as a part of the DRC. She and her husband reside in McKinney.
